MMM 9/14/15

Hey folks,
Another great lesson I learned this week.  I have tried to come into everyone's class more often just to watch some of the amazing things you do and to take pictures so our community can see it too.  Some kids don't know my purpose either because they are young or they are new to the school.  Yesterday my reason for coming into classrooms more was confirmed when a young boy asked why I was there.  I didn't have to answer because he was answered by one of his classmates when she said, "Your in here to see how awesome we are."  Exactly!!  I want to see awesome and I get to see awesome every day as I come in and watch.  I'm sure you notice that I bring my computer in with me.  I have to do work since I'm not in my office as much, but I do notice your awesome and your kids' awesome.  Yes I'm using the word awesome too much and in the wrong way, but I'm doing it on purpose.  Everyone has awesome to share and hopefully we are all catching it.  Please share some of the awesome you are seeing.
I am sharing a great article cowritten by a few of my friends.  It is not long. It is about doing awesome things for our students.  After all, kids deserve it.  Here is the link.

To Be Aware Of
  • Earthquake Drill on Wednesday September 16.  For the first few drills, you will know when they are so you can train your kids.  Eventually, they will be unannounced to make them more real for us.
  • Superintendent Jarman in coming on Tuesday in the morning.  He and some of the school board will be in the conference room all morning.
  • Keep track of what duty you have each week.  There have been a few times where there hasn't been someone out on duty.  We need to make sure the kids are safe.  Here is a link to the duty list for quick reference
  • The Grovecrest Faculty Passion Project google classroom page is open and you all have been invited.  Here is a link to the page.  I've only had a few share on this page.  Take a look.  It is easy and I would like to know what everyone is thinking about.
  • The Monday Assemblies Zack and I will be doing are going to be every 4th Monday, or the last school Monday of the month starting in September.  We will call them Edivate Assemblies since you will be working on Edivate during those times.
  • The first faculty Mtg that will be devoted to your passion projects will be on September 16th.  That's this Wednesday.  There will be 4 of our faculty meetings devoted to that.
  • Our PD day in October will be in an edcamp format.  Information about this will come to you throughout the coming weeks in preparation.
  • Zack and I have scheduled Oliver Button readings.  If you haven't signed up for a time, Zack sent out a sign up sheet.  Monthly Kyle reads will be scheduled each month as well.

I will let you know the evaluation schedule when I get it.

Celebrations
I was so amazed and proud of the activities last week associated with 9/11.  I had parents talking to me after school on Friday about stuff going on.  Great job incorporating that into your day.
Congrats to the 4th grade team for getting the Spirit of Alpine Award this week.  This is one of the reasons the Superintendent is coming to visit tomorrow.

Great Video of the Week
Great STEM video via Edivate.  I know it is 1st grade, but think of how this could work for your grade as well.

Here's one for 6th grade too.

Great Read of the Week
Same article from above.

Have a Great 1st day and an Amazing week!
